ABOUTTHE GARDEN
We believe that food and farming can reconnect people with nature, each other and their environment. Through this CSA project, we are exploring how to farm in a nature-inclusive way and organise our work around solidarity.

Community Supported Agriculture
Tuinen van het Roodborstje will operate as a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) project. This means we build a direct, trust-based relationship between us as farmers and our members. Members support the farm by paying a yearly subscription at the start of the season, and in return receive a weekly box of fresh vegetables that will be available for pick-up in Wageningen and Amsterdam. Farmers and members share both the risks and the bounties of the season. Our members are always welcome to join us at the gardens!
How it Works
As a member, you make one financial contribution at the beginning of the season. This way, we secure upfront costs for compost, seeds and seedlings, and our income for the year. In return, you receive a crate of freshly harvested, organic, grown-with-care vegetables, delivered close to you in Amsterdam or Wagenigen. You can pick up your crate in Amsterdam at the Dokhuis (Plantage Doklaan 8) or close to home in Wageningen. Read more here.
We use a solidarity pricing system that depends on your income and personal circumstances.
Food is political!
After decades of for-profit corporations exploiting the food system, “farming” has become a dirty word. Usually involving huge amounts of chemicals, exploitation of workers, massive fossil-fuel guzzling machines and endless fields of monoculture, the industrial food system makes access to food dependent on injustice and a war against nature. Seed, pesticide and fertilizer companies have colonial histories and use neocolonial practices to trick farmers into dependence. Meanwhile, we think access to ethically grown, environmentally sane and nutritious food is a basic right. We want to live in a world where eating doesn’t compromise our ecosystems or our integrity as a species. We see Tuinen van het Roodborstje as an experiment in actively building the alternatives we need for a post capitalist future, one in which it feels good to eat - and it tastes good too.
This project exists very much because of our friends at Tuinen van de Egel. Our name connects us to de Egel, as well as to the robin who welcomed us while planting trees on our first workday on-site.
The name also reminds us that this land will never be “ours”. We are visitors in the Tuinen van het Roodborstje. We hope to grow food here and help a biodiverse habitat flourish for human and more-than-human life.
