Vegetable subscriptions / Contributions

Solidaritypricing

You choose what to contribute for your vegetable subscription, based on your income and what you can afford. Our aim is to make vegetables accessible to people on different incomes while earning a fair wage as farmers.

Suggested contributions for 2026

A euro does not mean the same thing to everyone. Someone working in hospitality might earn less than €15 an hour before tax, while a consultant or legal adviser might earn €100 an hour. Asking both to pay the same price means asking for very different amounts of their working time.

Find your net monthly income in the table, or use the nearest amounts as a guide. Stadspas holders can use the lower contribution in the first row.

A small crate is intended for one to two people, and a large crate for two to three. The right size also depends on how often you cook and how much of your diet is vegetable-based.

Your circumstances: 20% less or more

Your monthly income does not tell the whole story. You may spend a lot of time caring for others without being paid, or have little left after essential costs. If you struggle to make it to the end of the month, use a contribution around 20% below the income-based guideline.

If you have substantial savings or other assets, regularly have more than enough left over, or can afford two skiing holidays a year, consider contributing around 20% more. Look at the resources available to you, not just the number on your payslip.

How we calculate the contribution

Our starting point is that an hour of our work is worth an hour of yours. The seasonal contribution combines that labour with the costs of running the garden:

Small subscription, whole season

  1. Work over the season

Your hourly rate × approximately 48 hours for a small subscription over the whole season.

  2. Fixed costs

Add 20% of the labour amount for compost, seeds, planting material, and depreciation of tools, equipment and machinery.

  3. VAT

Add 9% to the labour-and-fixed-costs subtotal.

Hourly rate × 48 × 1.20 × 1.09

A large crate costs 1.5 times as much as a small crate and contains approximately 1.5 times as much produce.

Paying for the season

We ask members to pay their annual contribution at the beginning of the season. Many costs arise before the first harvest; paying upfront lets us cover them and plan our work and income for the year.

If you would like to pay in instalments, are unsure what to contribute, or still find a subscription too expensive, email us so we can work out an arrangement.
